Since Puerto Rico is a Commonwealth of the United States, there aren’t too many legal requirements for a destination wedding .

You will both need a photo ID and your birth certificate. You’ll also need a marriage licence, which you should request at least two months in advance.

Fortunately, no residency is required in order to have a destination wedding in Puerto Rico. However, you need an affidavits stating that you are not a resident.

If either party has been married before, proof of divorce or death certificate of a former spouse is required. Additionally, you will need a medical certificate, which is only valid for 10 days.

Once you have all of the above documents, you have to get them authenticated. You’ll also need to get a $20.00 Internal Revenue Stamp from the Government of Puerto Rico.
