Getting Married In The Cayman Islands: Legal Requirements

cayman-islands-destination-weddingGetting a Cayman Islands marriage license is not hard, which makes it a great location for a destination wedding!

There is no waiting period and you don’t need to be a resident.

This means you could get married the same day you arrive on the island, which is especially nice for cruise ship passengers.

You can receive your Cayman Islands marriage license the same day you fill out the application. Before filling out the application to obtain your license, you should make arrangements with a Marriage Officer, who will be officiating your ceremony.

Applications for marriage licenses and a list of licensed Marriage Officers can be received from the Passport and Corporate Services Office in Grand Cayman. They can also be received from the District Commissioner’s Office on Cayman Brac and Little Cayman.

Documents you’ll need in order to receive your marriage license are a letter from your Marriage Officer, both parties passports to show citizenship, age and photo ID, proof of marital status, immigration card that you will receive at the airport when you arrive, and you will need to pay a fee.

Once your application is processed, you will receive your Cayman Islands marriage license the same day. You can then get married anywhere in the Cayman Islands! Even though it’s a quick process, it’s recommended to plan everything in advance and apply for your license beforehand to be safe.

Since legal marriage requirements in the Cayman Islands may change over time, you’re advised to check the official government website for exact details. You can find up to date information here.
