The Dominican Republic is the perfect backdrop for your dream wedding ceremony and reception.
Conveniently, most hotels and resorts offer wedding services and their coordinators will help you with the planning.
They will also make sure you have the necessary documents in order to make your vows legal.
Getting a Dominican Republic marriage license isn’t very difficult. However, it’s always best to give yourself plenty of time to get everything together so you are prepared. Your first step will be to contact the Consulate in Santo Domingo to request permission to marry. Once you receive permission, you can go ahead with your planning!
The documents you and your fiance will need are your birth certificates, passports and sworn statement that neither of you are married (single status affidavit). These documents must be translated into Spanish and be legalized by the Dominican Consulate.
If either party has been divorced or widowed then a divorce decree or death certificate is also required. Additionally, you will need two witnesses with passports at the ceremony and you will need to pay a fee.
After the ceremony, you will be given a document that proves the marriage happened. You then need to request a marriage certificate from the local Justice of the Peace. This Dominican Republic marriage license will be valid all over the world.
If you are interested in having a religious ceremony then additional documents may be required. There are a few Roman Catholic Churches and Synagogues that will perform weddings for non citizens. This allows you to keep in line with your faith even when you’re in a different country!
The Dominican Republic is a fairly easy destination to obtain a marriage license and to have a wedding! Since legal marriage requirements in the Dominican Republic may change over time, you’re advised to check the official government website for exact details. You can find up to date information here.
