The U.S. Virgin Islands makes it very easy for non-residents to get married there!
Not only do U.S. citizens not need a passport to travel to the islands, but the application for a marriage license is right online, there is no blood test needed and there is no waiting period required on the actual islands.
The first step is to download the U.S. Virgin Islands marriage license here. Submit the completed application to the Territorial Court along with a money order and a letter stating your arrival and departure date, date and location of your wedding ceremony, and the name of your Officiate.
If either the bride or groom has been divorced or widowed then you also need to include the court certified copies of a divorce or death certificate. All of these documents and license fee needs to be mailed to the court at least 8 days before your arrival! As long as this is done then there’s no waiting period once you’re on the islands.
Once the bride and groom arrive in the U.S. Virgin Islands then the couple needs to go in person to the courthouse in St. Thomas to pick up their marriage license before their wedding day. Photo ID is required for you to pick it up! Conveniently, the courthouse is located just 15 minutes from the airport, so you can stop by right when you arrive.
Once the wedding ceremony is over, the Officiate will sign the license and it needs to go back to the courthouse to be notarized. The certified copy is then mailed to your home address about 2-3 weeks later. As long as you plan ahead, the process of getting a U.S. Virgin Islands marriage license is very easy!
